Bach on the Rock is excited to present their first live concert in nearly two years!  For this

concert we are pleased to welcome baroque music specialist Marco Vitale as our

Artistic Director. 

The concert will showcase the two main styles of French baroque music:

sacred and secular.  You will hear Charpentier’s “Messe de Minuit” (Midnight Mass),

a work based on old French Christmas carols, which are still popular today.  

In 18th century France it was common to write variations on Christmas carols, and we will

perform variations by De Lalande and Corrette, in which you will recognize the same songs found in Charpentier’s mass.

Marin Marais’ Alcyone is an extraordinary opera composed by the French gamba virtuoso in 1706. This opera is based on the myth of Alcyone and Cheix  - our concert will feature selections from the Prologue, the Matelots scene and the final choir and chaconne.  The opera contains famous and ear-catching dances, made famous by Jordi Savall and his Le Concert des Nations.
