Simply Baroque

Here is your chance to immerse yourself in a wonderful evening of Baroque music. Savour the energy of the choir and orchestra performing Handel's Chandos Anthem #9. Sink into the rich sounds of a Haydn cello concerto and watch our own Paula Kiffner work her magic! We come back with the intimate sound of Telemann and the Concerto for Four Violins. The concert concludes with the glorious Cantata BWV 40 by J. S. Bach, with the choir and orchestra at their best.

Cellist Paula Kiffner earned music performance degrees from Ohio State University and Peabody Conservatory.  While at Peabody she was principal cellist of the Annapolis Symphony and a member of the Washington Theater Chamber Players, both under the artistic direction of Leon Fleisher.  Her teachers were Harvey Shapiro, Laurence Lesser and Stephen Kates.

 

A former member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Kiffner has also performed as guest principal cellist of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and appears  frequently as a recitalist and concerto soloist throughout the Pacific Northwest.  Her performances have been heard on CBC Radio (Canada) and KING FM (Seattle).

 

Ms. Kiffner also works with youth orchestras in Canada and the US,  and has served as guest artist and teacher at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria.  She is a faculty member of the Victoria Conservatory of Music.

A native of Waterloo Ontario, Adam commenced his musical education at Wilfrid Laurier University in Voice Performance under the direction of Kimberly Barber.  He now resides in Victoria, BC where he completed his Masters in Voice Performance with Benjamin Butterfield at the University of Victoria and currently studies privately with Carolyn Sinclair. 

 

Adam is a choral scholar at St. Barnabas Church under the direction of Michael Jarvis. He also sings with the Schooner Cove Singers, a brand new professional choir based in Parksville, BC.  In the past Adam has been a member of the St. Christopher Singers, Victoria Philharmonic Choir, Victoria Choral Society and Pacific Opera Victoria Chorus.  He also teaches private singing lessons and is a music instructor at the Taber Music School.

Louis Dillon is a bass-baritone hailing from Halfmoon Bay, BC. He is pursuing his Diploma in Musical Performance at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. With VCM’s Opera Studio, his roles include Demetrius in "The Fairy Queen", Bartolo in "Le nozze di Figaro", and Guglielmo in "Così fan tutte". With Pacific Opera Victoria, Louis has sung as a Customs Sergeant in "La Bohème", a soloist in their outreach programs, and as a chorister. He has also performed with the VCM orchestra, East Van Opera, the Victoria Baroque Players, and won first place at the 2017 Performing Arts BC Provincials. He currently studies under Ingrid Attrot.
